Krisztián Dombrádi

Krisztián Dombrádi (Budapest, 16 December 1975 –) is a sociologist and researcher of communication and artificial intelligence, and a college professor.

Research Interests

His work focuses on the communication theory of social capital and on systems theories. At the centre of his interests lie transdisciplinary, knowledge-based processes. The majority of his publications in foreign languages address evolutionary theory, the sociology of religion and the communication theory of tactical warfare, as well as the changing role of artificial intelligence. His publications on these subjects are available among the titles of the Munich-based publisher GRIN Verlag.

He has published six books with Századvég Publishing House and Belvedere Meridionale Publishing House. The first appeared in 2004 under the title Rendszer és politika (System and Politics), followed in 2011 by Ismerős ismeretlen – kommunikáció és társadalmi tőke (Familiar Stranger – Communication and Social Capital; Századvég). These were followed, at Belvedere Meridionale, by A Tough Nut to Crack – Hitchhikers from Communism towards Democracy in Eastern Europe (2024), Communication Theory, a Transdisciplinary Science (2025), Vallás, erkölcs, jog – egy posztmodern háromszögben (Religion, Morality, Law – in a Postmodern Triangle, 2025) and Emlékezet – térkép a holnaphoz (Memory – A Map to Tomorrow, 2025). Life and Career

He completed his university studies at the University of Szeged. The main direction of his studies was set by Imre Pászka. He defended his Ph.D. dissertation in 2007 at the University of Pécs, in the Doctoral Programme in Communication founded by Özséb Horányi. His dissertation supervisor was Béla Buda. His central theme is the analysis of participation and "involvement" in the processes of social communication, as well as the understanding of the problem-solving and (existential) meaning-making strategies of cooperating communities. He conducted his research at the Institute of Behavioural Sciences of the Faculty of Medicine of Semmelweis University in Budapest, under the direction of Mária Kopp. His results formed part of the Hungarostudy research series.

In 2004 and 2007, during the municipal and parliamentary elections in Serbia, he served as advisor to the president of the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians, acting as strategic planner and leader of the communication campaigns. In 2021 he was appointed college professor. He is the father of two children, Zsófi and Ádám.

Teaching

In the final years of his university studies, he taught classes on sociological theory and systems theory as a student instructor at the University of Szeged (1999–2000). At the beginning of his career he continued to teach the foundations of sociological theory to students of the Apor Vilmos Catholic College, and subsequently taught communication theory, sociological theory, social communication, media theory, political science, the theory of social capital and social philosophy at Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church, at the Department of Communication founded by Béla Buda. In the meantime, he lectured on political communication as a guest lecturer at Budapest Metropolitan University.

At King Sigismund College and later at Milton Friedman University, he headed the Department of Communication and Cultural Studies for nearly ten years and was a member of the university's senate. Since 2024 he has been a member of the MTA–SZTE Oral History and History Education Research Group, and since 2026 a member of the Hungarostudy research group at the Institute of Behavioural Sciences of Semmelweis University. His teaching methodology is characterised by the practical interpretation of social-science theories, and his outlook is permeated by a holistic attitude. To promote everyday discourse on scientific approaches, he founded the community-building, science-integrating platform Enjoyable Science.

His studies in foreign languages – among others on the sociology of religion as a sociology of knowledge (The Sociology of Religion as a Sociology of Knowledge, Trends and Challenges) and on the postmodern challenges to freedom of religion (Beliefs and Borders. Challenges to Freedom of Religion in the Postmodern Era) – were published by GRIN Verlag in Munich.
